A food experiences sharing community.

If I learned anything in my 40+ years in Tech as a Sales Leader it was to value the experience of others. My perspective in business was always to share what works and why it works and to solicit the experiences of others in order to get the best possible outcome. Then 2019 happened…I was diagnosed with breast cancer. No worries I was lucky. It was early stage, slow growing and small. It was also a wake up call that perhaps it was time to pursue my interests and happiness and get out of the continual stress I was under.

I had raised three children who all had productive lives, my husband was retired and I have four grandson’s under the age of 5 to enjoy. It was time to travel and do all the things I like to do. Cooking is one of those things. I love food and I enjoy trying things out to get the best possible outcome. “Experience”! I found myself posting a lot about food. I have always cooked and had a lot of recipes that people loved that were all the result of “try, try again”. I found my friends enjoyed my posts and valued my experience. BUT I also discovered that just because a recipe is straightforward it isn’t always intuitive. In the back of my mind I was wanting to start a YouTube channel or Blog site but I just couldn’t get off my duff and get it done. Then Covid19 happened. Suddenly I found myself cancelling vacation plans and shutting myself in because I am in the vulnerable group at my tender age of 65, I am taking this seriously because I fully intend to watch my four grandson’s Liam, Cole, Gabriel and Jack grow up. I plan to dance at their weddings and a sure fire way to do that is to stay healthy by shutting myself in the house and cooking. I started posting food on Instagram again and with the encouragement of my friends was inspired to finally start my BLOG. Hence the Culinary Shut In was born.

My goal with this blog is to share things that work, then show you how I do them using video. Just like in sales, clients learn more if they not only hear what you have to say but can “see” what your talking about and even more if they can experience it through video. This is just true in life in general.

I am not a professional chef or a gourmet cook. I am just someone who tries until she gets it right. Since today marks the first day of weeks of being at home there is no better time to document my favorite recipes, recipe hacks, kitchen tools I love and why I love them as well as mistakes and things I have learned over 45 years of serious cooking. Not a lot of my cooking is original, but it is all tried and true. I will give credit along the way to the Bloggers and Vloggers who inspired me and share my stories of try, try again. I mean it took me 30 years to perfect sugar cutout cookies with Royal Icing so maybe I will save you a year or two of aggravation with my posts. I encourage you to share your experiences. I hope we all come out of the madness that is being wrought by Covid19 but in the meantime enjoy the BLOG and feel free to let me know if you enjoy it or would like to see changes. Mangia!
